Treasurer Frerichs to Announce First Green Lending Program Loan Recipient

CHICAGO - Illinois State Treasurer Michael Frerichs will announce Just Christ Ministries as the first loan recipient of the Non-Profit Green Lending Program. The program, which assists non-profits and faith-based organizations to make their property more energy efficient, addresses the barriers that non-profits and faith-based organizations face when seeking access to capital. While a home owner often secures such loans by using a residence as collateral, financial institutions almost never do so with real estate owned by non-profits and faith-based organizations.

The loan for Just Christ Ministries was secured through the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office and Faith in Place, an Illinois-based interfaith environmental non-profit, that helps to identify non-profits and faith-based organizations that could benefit from the Green Lending Program. Everence Federal Credit Union, a faith-based financial services organization, financed the low-interest loan and will continue efforts to make money available for low-interest loans that would assist non-profits and faith-based organizations that otherwise are unable to secure financing.
