Tell us your story!

As you join Faith in Action Week, share your stories and photos here. We'll celebrate together at the Earth Vigil on April 23 at 6 p.m. CT/7p.m. ET.

About this Opportunity

The Faith in Place Action Week (April 18-23) invites people of faith and conscience across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin to act for our shared home.

The environmental crisis is a spiritual crisis rooted in disconnection from one another, our traditions, and the Earth. From April 18 to 23, Green Teams, community groups, and Houses of Worship will take steps to repair those relationships through education, advocacy, service, and celebration.

Every action, large or small, contributes to a growing multifaith movement for environmental justice, resilience, and hope. Together, we are cultivating a network of care and action strong enough to meet the challenges of our time.

Join a Local Event

Faith in Place will be hosting events throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Our FIP events will be listed here. We encourage you to register and join us for an event or plan your own event. If you host your own event, you can let us know you'd like for your event to be listed on our website for the public. We have a decision guide, action menu, flyers, and other resources available in our Overview Packet. Use these materials to help you plan your event.

Action Menu for Inspiration

Not sure what your project for Faith in Action Week could be? We’ve put together this action menu to inspire you with some project ideas! You are welcome to change and adjust any details as you wish!

Service
  • Clean up (Block, neighborhood, beach, park): Gather a group, some trash bags and gloves, and go out and clean up a part of your community.

  • Gardening day: At your home, house of worship, or community garden, spend some time with your hands in the dirt.

  • Host a community care day: Collect some nonparishable food items for a local food bank, put together some hygeine care kits for vulnerable community members, or set up a mutual aid closet at your house of worship.

Education
  • Nature Walk: Host a nature walk in your community. Look at trees, local plants, and bodies of water. Take photos and ask questions!

  • Host a film screening: Have a discussion after, create a tangible project sharing insights.

  • Host a roundtable: Make a list of questions to inspire environmental conversations (what does the community need, what resources are missing, where can we make impact etc).

Advocacy
  • Host a postcard-writing party: Print out some postcards from Faith in Place to send to your legislators to advocate for more just, resilient, and thriving communities. (Download a postcard here.) (Postcard Prompts and Tips here.)

  • Visit your legislators! Organize a group of folks to visit your legislator's office to advocate for sustainable energy and healthy communities. Need support? Reach out to a member of the Faith in Place staff. We can help!

  • Learn about vote tripling: Make a plan in your community to triple the vote!

Celebration
  • Outdoor Gratitude Gathering: Host a gathering outdoors to express gratitude for our shared home. Offer prayers or meditations to foster connection and celebration.

  • Art for the Earth Party: Create collaborative art, murals, posters, or poetry inspired by environmental justice and your community.

  • Community Potluck or Picnic: Gather together for a meal. Feature locally-sourced food if you're able.
