Faith in Place stands in full solidarity with our Muslim neighbors, partners, and community members across Indiana.
We unequivocally condemn the remarks made by Indiana Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith, who declared his hatred of Islam. These words come at a time of rising Islamophobic violence across this country, and from a man who holds public office and a public trust.
Muslim communities are woven into the fabric of Indiana. Their presence in Indiana dates back to the earliest days of our state. A threat to their religious freedom is a threat to everyone's.
Muslims are farmers and teachers, healthcare workers and neighbors, environmental advocates and people of deep faith. They are precisely the kind of community members that Faith in Place is proud to work alongside every day in our shared commitment to just, resilient, and thriving communities.
Lt. Governor Beckwith should feel the weight of what he has said. To use the platform of public office to sanction hatred is a stain on the state of Indiana.
We call on Governor Braun and all Indiana elected officials to make it clear that Muslim Hoosiers belong here without reservation or exception.
Faith in Place will continue to stand with our Muslim partners to work for the health and well-being of the communities we all call home.
