Faith in Place is proud to announce that we have promoted several of our highly talented staff members to new positions! With Employee Appreciation Day just around the corner on Friday, March 4, 2022, we are thrilled to celebrate their achievements with you. It means our organization continues to increase its impact!
As we grow in new and wonderful ways, we will also be posting new positions. We are currently hiring a full-time Central Illinois Outreach Coordinator to join Cindy Shepherd in the Central Illinois region.

Elena Canler | they/them | Deputy Director
After serving as the Communications Director since 2019, Elena stepped into our new Deputy Director role in the fall of 2021. Using their Master of Public Health background, they helped the team safely navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. They produced completely virtual Green Team Summits and Annual Celebrations & Fundraisers—two of our largest annual events—in 2020 and 2021. In their new role as Deputy Director, Elena will be working closely with President & Executive Director, Rev. Brian Sauder, to oversee Faith in Place’s new partnership with Hoosier Interfaith Power & Light and Wisconsin Interfaith Power & Light.

Kira Dault | she/her | Communications Director
Kira joined Faith in Place in December 2021 as the new Communications Director. Kira brings more than a decade of eclectic experience to her role at Faith in Place including communications strategy, digital communications, and advocacy strategy. She spent her early career as a hospital chaplain for a pediatric trauma center. That early work in chaplaincy continues to inform her work in nonprofit communications.
Rev. Cindy Shepherd | she/her | Green Team Director
Cindy has energetically led Faith in Place’s programming in the Central Illinois region for seven years and will now be leading Faith in Place’s Green Team Coaching Program as our new Green Team Director. Cindy will continue to work out of the Central IL area, and we look forward to sharing her enthusiastic and energizing leadership with our Green Teams across Illinois.
Princess Harris | she/her | Sustainable Food & Land Use Senior Coordinator
Princess has adapted many of our nature outings and the Story Circle program to the virtual space, working with videographers and the Communications team to publish outings on YouTube and our podcast: Voices of the Earth! She will continue to creatively re-imagine the Sustainable Food & Land Use programs, encouraging people to get outside and care for nature.
Christina Krost | she/her | Policy Senior Coordinator
Christina joined Policy Director, Pastor Scott Onqué, on our policy team in March of 2021 after serving as the Southern Illinois Outreach Coordinator. She has led our team’s efforts to develop a comprehensive Policy Platform over the last year and will continue to work on empowering people of faith and spirituality to promote climate justice. Katie Maxwell | she/her | Communications Senior Coordinator
Katie has been on the communications team at Faith in Place for three years and on staff for four years. During her tenure, she has managed the organization’s social media platforms and has provided key event planning support for our largest events. She primarily manages the website, designs and sends our monthly newsletters, and supports our outreach team when they host webinars. In August of 2021, she launched Faith in Place’s first podcast—Voices of the Earth—with co-host, Lauren Paris.
Isioma Odum | she/her | Chicago Outreach Senior Coordinator
After serving as the Energy & Climate Change Coordinator, Isioma will now be working across the Chicago region to engage and inspire faith communities to take action on climate justice. Samantha Miller will now serve as the Energy & Climate Change Coordinator.
Samantha Miller | she/her | Energy & Climate Change Coordinator
Samantha spends much of her time educating Chicago-area residents about energy efficiency and coaching many Green Teams. She previously served as the Energy & Climate Change Support and will be stepping into the Energy & Climate Change Coordinator position.
Carla Aldana | she/her | Lake County Outreach Coordinator
Carla joined Faith in Place in March 2021 as the Lake County Outreach Support. She enjoys working out of Waukegan—the community where she grew up. Carla will continue to empower people of faith, spirituality, and justice in Lake County in her new role as Outreach Coordinator. Prior to joining the team, she received her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies with a minor in Communication Arts from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA in May 2020.
