Faith in Place Distributes $175K to 25 Houses of Worship and Faith-based Non-profits!

Faith in Place is proud to announce it has distributed 25 grants, funded through the Chicago Region Food System Fund, to Houses of Worship and faith-based non-profits working to enhance resilience, innovation, and sustainable transformation of the regional food system.

Since 1999, Faith in Place has empowered people of diverse faiths and spiritualities leading the environmental movement to create healthy, just, and sustainable communities for all.

In 2020, Faith in Place had the honor of regranting $202,000 in two rounds of mini-grants to 74 faith partners and Houses of Worship that provided emergency relief from COVID-19 related hunger in their communities. This funding was made possible by the Chicago Region Food System Fund and ComEd.

During this latest round of grant funding provided by the Chicago Region Food System Fund, this new cohort of Houses of Worship and non-profit organizations were each awarded a $7,000 grant to implement their sustainable food projects between April 2022 and March 2023. Projects span a variety of strategies to enhance local food security. From launching or expanding faith-based community food gardens to creating a youth-focused permaculture and entrepreneurship program, grantees are creatively addressing the food security needs of their communities.

We look forward to bringing you stories featuring our incredible grantees and their projects over the next year!
