About the event
Join us April 13th at 6pm CT for our second Racial Healing Book Discussion.
As the country moves forward with the work of dismantling a culture of systemic racism, this book discussion will explore the work of Carolyn Finney, author of Black Faces, White Spaces and Leah Penniman, author of Farming While Black. You do not need to have read either work to attend this event!
We will be discussing the following sections from Black Faces, White Spaces: the Preface and Introduction as well as Chapters 1-3 and the Epilogue. For Farming While Black, please read the Introduction followed by Chapters 3 and 13-16.Â
We highly recommend borrowing from your local library or purchasing a copy of these books! Here are two ways to buy online while also supporting independent bookstores. If you prefer physical copies, Bookshop.org is a great option. If audiobooks are more your style, check out Libro.fm. Both allow you to designate your favorite indie bookshop to receive a portion of the proceeds from each sale.
We invite you to join more events in the virtual Faith in Place Steps to Racial Healing Series. These conversations are hosted in partnership with the EcoWomanist Institute and Healing Illinois. By participating in our racial healing circles and book discussions beginning in February 2021, we can promote racial healing for everyone and advance racial justice and equity in Illinois.
