About this Opportunity
Faith in Place's Native Garden & Tree Grant opportunity will give small grants of up to $1,000 to non-profit organizations (501(c)3s) and Houses of Worship located in environmental justice communities in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, and Lake County, Illinois, to support the planting of nature-based climate solutions.
Each grant will amount up to $1,000 and we will select 15-20 grantees. Projects should be completed by the end of Summer 2026.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) organization or House of Worship and also located in an environmental justice community in Lake County, IL or Milwaukee County, WI.
Our grants team can support you in verifying if you are located in an environmental justice community. Email grants@faithinplace.org for any support.
An environmental justice community is:

Located in an Income Eligible Community in Lake County, IL as identified by the IL Solar for All program (https://www.illinoissfa.com/income-eligible-communities-map/)

or, located in a low-income zip code in Milwaukee County, WI as identified by the Milwaukee County Department of Health. https://healthcompassmilwaukee.org/topics/POV
How To Apply
Grant Applications will open on October 15, 2025. The deadline for submitting applications is December 5, 2025. You will use Faith in Place’s grant portal to complete the application (takes around 1 hour to complete).

Community Green Space with Native Plants

Startup Cost: $200-$400 for a variety of native plants, mulch, and educational signs.

Maintenance: Minimal, as native plants require less water and care.

Impact: Enhances local biodiversity, helps with CO2 absorption, and educates the community about native flora.

Tree Planting and Care Initiative

Startup Cost: $100-$300 for saplings of native trees.

Maintenance: Basic supplies like mulch and water buckets; partnering with local volunteers can help with care.

Impact: Trees help absorb CO2, improve air quality, and provide shade to lower local temperatures.

Pollinator Habitat Garden

Startup Cost: $150-$300 for native flowering plants and soil amendments.

Maintenance: Minimal upkeep aside from seasonal weeding and mulching.

Impact: Supports pollinator populations and helps in plant reproduction, contributing to biodiversity.
