Faith in Place Indiana Update: February 2026

Hello Hoosiers,

My utility bill this winter was $345...and I know I am not alone.

I’ve heard from neighbors and friends facing bills upwards of $400, $500, and even higher. These rising costs are impacting households across Indiana. This newsletter is both an update and a statement of great resolve. We recently won against redistricting, demonstrating the strength and power of collective action. As midterms approach, we are carrying that momentum forward, working to ensure our energy systems and public priorities are affordable, equitable, and just. These systems need to work for us not to profit from us.

Staying informed and engaged is how we continue to build that power.

Legislative Priorities

The Indiana legislative session is well underway, and we are actively tracking bills that impact environmental justice, clean energy, and the health of our communities.

  • Build Relationships Locally: Consider reaching out to our state legislators or legislative assistant, not to advocate on a specific bill, but simply to introduce yourself as a person of faith who cares about community well-being, environmental concerns, and affordability.

Renewable Energy Day

January 20th’s Renewable Energy Day at the Statehouse marked a powerful and hopeful start to a year of transformation for Indiana. More than 200 faith leaders, business owners, and residents came together to raise awareness and urge legislators to create a more just, affordable, and sustainable energy future for all Hoosiers.

Faith in Place was honored to stand in solidarity with green team leaders and partners across the state—including Solar United Neighbors—and with leaders from across the political spectrum. Together, we lifted a unified call for clean, affordable, “homegrown” energy that benefits every Indiana community.

As Faith in Place’s Indiana Outreach Director, Zach Garcia, reminded us, “What does our faith require of us right now? 1. Caring for creation. 2. Protecting our neighbors. 3. Building an AFFORDABLE future for the next generation.”

Throughout the day, participants met with legislators to live out these values. Hoosiers shared their commitment to stewardship, fairness, and economic dignity, voicing support for policies that reflect these principles.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who made the trip to Indianapolis—who showed up in faith, hope, and determination for our shared future. Your presence and your voices remind us that when we unite in purpose, we truly can shape a healthier, more equitable Indiana for all.
